Sam Hurcom is a writer and PhD researcher from South Wales (UK). He attained a BA in Philosophy at Cardiff University in 2013 and an MA in Ethical and Social Philosophy at Cardiff University in 2014.

 

Sam gained literary representation in 2018, and had his debut crime novel, A Shadow on the Lens published with Orion (Hatchette UK) in 2019. A Shadow on the Lens received praise from both The Guardian and The Times and was nominated for Capital Crime’s Debut Novel of the Year award. Sam’s second novel, Letters from the Dead was published in 2020.

Sam is an Associate Tutor in the school of ENCAP (English, Communication and Philosophy) at Cardiff University. His current PhD research at Cardiff University examines the ethics of creative artificial intelligence, including generative large language models. Sam has recently moved from Belfast to London with his partner, Alice. He enjoys exploring the countryside and going to the cinema and theatre in his spare time.
